3 aspects to consider:

1.Learner factor

As for insert students, I think the ATTITUDE in learning is a critical factor whether he/she would be happy studying at CKY. Having been at CKY for 10 years, most Yr 11 students are quite independent in learning, doing projects, presentations, etc. There are 4 classes of yr 10 and I project that there might be only 3 classes next year as some will go abroad.

It would be not that difficult to study for IB if the student is good at language(s), outgoing in character, expressive, and most importantly, having an inquisitive mind, ready to look for new knowledge and be patient enough to organize information acquired and present it with confidence.

The two years of IB training might be quite tough and good time management is required. This was Principal Lau's advice when we first entered CKY 10 years ago. However, the process is more important than the result. Whatever the exam results are, the 2-year course would be quite rewarding.

2.Choice of subjects

Parent, or the student herself better, could visit IBO website and look for the groups of subjects she's going to choose. Quite different from DSE, IB has a strict limit in choice of subjects - MUST choose one subject from 6 groups, or two from one of the groups only. That means one subject in Science, and Math are compulsory. But there is an "easier" syllabus for Math-less-able students "Math studies".

3. School climate and teaching staff

Having in CKY for 10 years, we really feel that CKY is NOT going for IB but IB just shares the same vision and mission with CKY - to develop an independent and inquisitive learner with a global perspective.

CKY has also recruited IB trained teachers and quite a proportion of them have taught IB courses locally and/or abroad. The school has closed supervision on teaching quality.

I'm not saying CKY is perfect, however, having been in the field of education for 3 decades, I personally feel that CKY is a school with relatively high teaching and learning qualities compared with most local schools and is led by Principal with a passion in education (not very common really, no kidding!!).

Compared with international schools, CKY has high standard in Chinese because most students take Chinese (first lang).

Wow! CKY sounds very much like a tertiary institute! I'm sure the students have no problem taking up research projects in college years later - they have been doing that since they were little!
